Girona is preparing for a new wave of flowers and colors that will fill its streets, with a festival that not only looks beautiful, but also aims to make people think. This year’s edition adds more spaces and a clear commitment to inclusivity, while visitors immerse themselves in a route filled with culture, history and social awareness.

From May 9 to 17, Girona will host 141 floral projects spread across 113 spaces, reaching as far as the Pont Major neighborhood and introducing the Sant Feliu bridge as one of the main new additions. The organizers are committed to an adapted, accessible experience with a program that goes far beyond simple contemplation.

Girona Temps de Flors: an experience for all the senses

🌡️ Weather: May temperatures between 15 ºC and 22 ºC
✈️ How to get there: Girona-Costa Brava Airport, train and bus connections from Tarragona
📅 Best time to visit: May, during the festival and spring bloom

The most remarkable floral spaces and projects

This year, the festival incorporates the Sant Feliu bridge as a symbolic new location, joining the classic bridges of Sant Agustí, Peixateries Velles and Gómez. The route stretches through areas such as the Barri Vell, with decorated gardens, fountains and façades, and also reaches Pont Major, where a woven wooden structure has been created as a resting and shelter area.

On the Cathedral stairs, a project coordinated by Teresa Vidal blends Girona mythology with tributes to Gaudí. The city also commemorates the 150th anniversary of Pau Casals with installations evoking peace and music at Natàlia Molero i Lloret Square and the Garden of Peace.

An open festival for everyone: accessibility and calm spaces

The exhibition reinforces accessibility with a route adapted for people with reduced mobility and two calm areas designed for neurodivergent visitors and breastfeeding women, open to anyone who may need a break. Rest areas have also been distributed throughout the route, including a dedicated space in the Garden of the Angel.

Extended opening hours allow visitors to enjoy the installations into the night thanks to the Flors de Nit initiative, offering evening visits until 11 p.m. and until midnight on Saturdays.

What to do in Girona beyond the festival

The origins of “Temps de Flors”

Temps de Flors began in 1954 as a small floral competition and exhibition held in the lounge of Girona’s Municipal Theatre and, over the years, has grown into one of the city’s major international festivals. Thanks to figures such as Rosa Maria Labayen, David Marca and Josep Tarrés, together with local community involvement and the opening of private courtyards, gardens and historic spaces in the Barri Vell, the event became an essential celebration blending flowers, heritage, springtime and Girona pride.

Heritage and curiosities of the city

Girona is much more than a floral backdrop. The city hides a Barri Vell filled with medieval alleyways, the Cathedral with the widest Gothic nave in the world, and the Arab Baths, which recall the Muslim period. Interestingly, Girona uses its own history and culture as part of the festival, featuring figures such as Gaudí and Pau Casals.

The sound of suitcases rolling over cobblestones and the aromas of tapas menus become part of the experience, lived intensely both day and night.

Where to eat and stay in Girona

For those wanting to enjoy local gastronomy, the city center and neighborhoods such as Mercadal offer restaurants with menus inspired by flowers and springtime. From creative tapas to traditional dishes with a modern twist, there are options for every taste.

As for accommodation, Girona offers everything from small boutique hotels —with that slightly pretentious but cozy vibe— to hostels and apartments that make you feel at home. For visitors seeking a comfortable and central stay, the Barri Vell is the best option. And if you prefer something quieter, Pont Major offers a calmer atmosphere, ideal after an intense day of sightseeing.

Organization and support: a city in motion

Who is behind the festival

The Girona City Council organizes Temps de Flors with the direct involvement of the Friends of Girona Flowers Association, which has coordinated the event for years. In 2026, BBVA, CaixaBank and Freixenet continue as sponsors, joined by REALE as a new collaborator.

This support allows the festival to expand its spaces and activities, including concerts at Plaça dels Jurats, the Girona A Cappella festival, casteller events and other cultural proposals that make the city even more vibrant.

Routes and getting around the city

To make visits easier, three itineraries have been designed connecting the main floral locations through shopping streets and green areas. This encourages visitors to rediscover Girona from a fresh and vibrant perspective, with the city dressed in its finest spring colors.

In addition, Girona’s proximity to Tarragona makes visiting Temps de Flors an easy getaway by train or car, perfect for a cultural and gastronomic weekend.

The truth is that Temps de Flors is not just a festival — it is the perfect excuse to experience Girona from a new perspective, where history, nature and culture meet in the same place.
