Editorial Policy
Modernet Digital is a local digital media outlet covering the Camp de Tarragona, Tarragonès, Terres de l'Ebre and Conca de Barberà regions. This page explains how we work, how we use technology, and how we ensure the quality and truthfulness of our content.
Mission and values
Our mission is to provide rigorous, accessible, and useful local information to the citizens of Southern Catalonia. We operate with a small team and technological tools that allow us to cover a wide range of topics without sacrificing informative quality.
How we prepare content
Modernet Digital’s articles are produced through a hybrid process combining artificial intelligence assistance with human editorial oversight. The usual process is as follows:
- Information reception: press releases, official statements, proprietary sources, or monitoring of public events.
- AI-assisted writing: an artificial intelligence engine structures and drafts an initial version based on the received information.
- Editorial supervision: the human team of Modernet Digital reviews the data’s truthfulness, ensures the information faithfully represents the original source, and validates the content before publication.
- Identified publication: all published articles explicitly indicate the use of AI assistance, as required by Annex I of the Deontological Code of the College of Journalists of Catalonia.
Important: Editorial responsibility for each published piece always lies with the human team of Modernet Digital, not with the technology. AI is an assistance tool, not a substitute for journalistic judgment.
Use of artificial intelligence
Modernet Digital uses AI engines transparently and responsibly, in line with the recommendations of the Annex I of the Deontological Code of the College of Journalists of Catalonia.
| Type of use | Application at Modernet Digital | Status |

| AI-assisted content writing | Initial draft supervised by humans | Active · identified |
| AI-generated images | Only as contextual illustration, never as documentation of real facts | Conditional |
| Virtual editorial profiles | Explicitly identified as virtual editors assisted by AI | Active · identified |
| AI-modified images of real people | Not allowed under any circumstances | Prohibited |
| Impersonation of real people | Not allowed under any circumstances | Prohibited |
Image protocol
The images published on Modernet Digital follow the following protocol:
- Documentary photography: when a source (institution, entity, person) provides original photographs of an event or newsworthy fact, the original images will always be used, credited with the corresponding authorship.
- Archive images: identified as such with appropriate credit.
- AI-generated illustrations: used exclusively as a visual contextual element in articles where there is no original photographic documentation. They are identified with the caption “Illustration generated by AI.”
- Third-party images: always used with appropriate license (Creative Commons, express transfer, or public domain) and credited to the author.
Team and authorship
Modernet Digital publishes content signed by two clearly differentiated types of profiles on our Who Signs page:
- Virtual editors assisted by AI: automated profiles that generate drafts with AI assistance and are supervised by the human editorial team. Identified as such in their biography.
- Human editorial team: real journalists with accredited experience, responsible for supervising, verifying, and validating all published content.
