A new building that promises to change the Baix Penedès campus. The news comes with a signed agreement that could transform the local educational offer and the lives of around 340 current students.

The Rovira i Virgili University (URV) and the Vendrell City Council signed an agreement this Monday to make the construction of a permanent headquarters for Nursing and Early Childhood Education studies a reality. The project, with a one-year horizon to have the executive project, will not only house the current offer but also opens the door to future degrees.

The project and its importance for Vendrell

An agreement that marks a before and after

The letter of intent signed this June 15, 2026 between the URV and the City Council lays the cornerstone of an initiative aimed at addressing the training needs of Baix Penedès.

The new building will become the permanent headquarters for Nursing and Early Childhood Education studies, currently dispersed or with provisional infrastructures, thus improving the quality of teaching and the experience of the 340 enrolled students.

The institutional vision: a strategic and territorial project

The mayor of Vendrell has defined the project as "strategic" for the municipality and the region, reflecting the desire to strengthen Baix Penedès as an educational benchmark.

Josep Pallarès, rector of the URV, added that this is a project that goes beyond the local scope to become a national initiative, with a clear commitment to territoriality and innovation.

Technical details and project timeline

The executive project: a clear roadmap

The two institutions expect to complete the executive project within one year. This document will precisely define all the architectural, functional, and logistical needs of the new building.

The planning includes spaces for current degrees and the possibility of expanding the educational offer, which could attract more students and professionals to the region.

Location and impact on the campus

The Baix Penedès campus will see the addition of a building that will centralize Nursing and Early Childhood Education training, improving the cohesion and visibility of these studies.

This will also represent an urban and social boost for the area, which can benefit commerce, transport, and local services.

Local reactions and expectations

Voices from the territory

The agreement has been well received both by the educational community and authorities, who see this project as an opportunity to consolidate Baix Penedès as a specialized training hub.

Current students, although not having spoken officially, hope that the change will result in better facilities and resources.

What does the region expect?

The region is preparing for a qualitative leap in higher education offerings, with the possibility that this will lead to an increase in economic and cultural activity linked to the university.

It is also expected that the new headquarters will facilitate the recruitment of professors and researchers, thereby increasing the campus’s prestige.

The project is still in its early stages, but it already creates expectations. The reality is that Vendrell and Baix Penedès have an appointment with the future of their university.
