The Tarragona Gastronomy Academy has awarded a special mention to the ANUT-DSM research group of the Rovira i Virgili University for their work in food, nutrition, and mental health. This recognition highlights a team that is setting trends in biomedical and nutritional research.

The ceremony took place in the gardens of the Vilafortuny Castle this Monday, where seven awards, two scholarships, and two special mentions were presented, in an event that brings together the most relevant professionals from the Camp de Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre.

The ANUT-DSM group and its trajectory

A multidisciplinary team with international impact

ANUT-DSM is made up of researchers from different disciplines and is attached to the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV) and CIBEROBN, a reference center in obesity and nutrition. Led by Professor Jordi Salas-Salvadó and Dr. Nancy Babio, the group has become a global reference point in studies related to nutrition and mental health.

Innovative research in nutrition and health

The works of ANUT-DSM focus on how diet affects mental well-being and healthy development, providing key data that can change current protocols and recommendations. It is precisely this scientific relevance that has motivated the special mention from the Gastronomy Academy.

The annual awards recognize professionals, media, wineries, restaurants, and products from the region. This year, in addition to ANUT-DSM, the institution has granted a posthumous mention to Carles Vilarrubí, former president of the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy and Nutrition, for his key role in promoting Catalan gastronomy.

Awards and scholarships that drive the sector

The ceremony also included two scholarships that help continue boosting research and the visibility of the Camp de Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre as references in gastronomy, food, and health.

The importance of nutrition research at URV

A center with a vocation for excellence

The Rovira i Virgili University promotes research in food and health through units such as ANUT-DSM, linked to prestigious institutions and with a clear focus on innovation and knowledge transfer.

Social and scientific impact

The studies carried out by the group not only provide new scientific evidence but also have a direct impact on improving public health and promoting healthier lifestyles in the region and beyond.

Recognitions, such as the one received by ANUT-DSM, highlight that mental health and nutrition are not separate issues but parts of the same equation that the Camp de Tarragona is beginning to master.
