Another setback for lovers of puzzles and numbers: the Mathematics Museum of Tarragona joins the Night of Museums and changes the rules of the city’s cultural game. But it won’t be just another night: the event promises a unique route with nine museums and a free bus so no one misses a detail.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, nine museum facilities in Tarragona will open their doors under the motto "Seeking Peace," with an initiative aimed at highlighting local culture and reflecting on coexistence in turbulent times. The big novelty is the Mathematics Museum of Catalonia, located at the Municipal Institute of Education of Tarragona (IMET), which is joining this cultural celebration for the first time.

The Night of Museums route in Tarragona

Itinerary and participating museums

The Night of Museums is no excuse to stay at home. The route, called “Journey to the museum constellation,” connects nine centers that offer their own perspective on the central theme: peace. Participants will be able to visit the History Museum, Mèdol - Center for Contemporary Arts, CaixaForum, Port Museum, Tarraconense Biblical Museum, Diocesan Museum, Museum of Modern Art, National Archaeological Museum, and, of course, the new Mathematics Museum.

Each museum has chosen an element that illustrates its particular vision of peace, with explanations taking place every 30 minutes between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. The route can be done in full or in parts, according to the visitor’s preference.

How connection between museums is facilitated

So you don’t miss a single detail, a free bus service will be provided connecting Part Alta, Eixample, and the Moll de Costa. Thus, neither distance nor fatigue will be excuses to skip any stop. Detailed information about the route and schedules will be available on the Auriga Cultural Services website, the event organizers.

This makes the Night of Museums an event accessible to everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, eager to explore the city from a cultural and educational perspective.

Seeking peace: the guiding thread

A motto full of meaning

In a time marked by conflicts and tensions everywhere, the museums of Tarragona have decided to focus on peace. This is no minor detail: the motto “Seeking Peace” invites the public to reflect on the urgent need for coexistence and security.

The invitation goes beyond a simple visit: it is a call to understand peace as the foundation of progress and social development. All this, through an experience that combines art, history, and now also mathematics.

The role of the Mathematics Museum

The addition of the Mathematics Museum brings a different and innovative touch to the cultural offer. Located at IMET, the museum offers a scientific and didactic perspective that breaks with traditional formats. If you ever thought mathematics was boring, this night will make you change your mind.

Moreover, its participation strengthens the route by adding content that connects with education and science, key elements for any society aiming to advance in peace.

How to participate and what you can win

Registrations and operation

If curiosity strikes you (and), the route is open to everyone and can be freely done during the afternoon and night of May 16. However, prior registration is recommended by filling out a form on the Auriga website to ensure better organization and experience.

At the museums, mediators will explain the meaning of the chosen element in sessions every half hour. Each explanation lasts about 10 minutes. Quick, direct, and without losing track.

Prize raffle for the most traveled

Those who complete the route can participate in a raffle. You only need to get a brochure that will be handed out at the start and mark it as you visit the different museums. To enter the raffle, you must have visited at least six of the nine facilities and be registered for the activity.

A good excuse to walk, learn, and who knows, take home a prize.

The reality is that, whether you’re from Tarragona or just passing through, the Night of Museums is an appointment you cannot miss. And now, with mathematics in the equation, the cultural celebration reaches a new level. Who would have thought a number so cold could have so much human warmth?
