Amposta opens new Red Cross headquarters with 436 m² and more social care
Amposta has inaugurated a new Red Cross headquarters that occupies 436 square meters and improves social care in the city. This expansion will allow service to more than 2,000 people, with modern spaces and greater capacity.
The headquarters is located on Cervantes Street, in a building that was formerly the retirement home, and has been made possible thanks to an agreement between the City Council, the Tarragona Provincial Council, and the Red Cross. The real value is that the city now has a social center with more resources and dignity for those in need.
A larger space for more dignified care
Renovated and adapted facilities
With 436 m² distributed over the ground and first floors, the new headquarters features new offices and multipurpose rooms that facilitate care and social programs. This qualitative leap serves to dignify the work that the Red Cross does in Amposta, especially with vulnerable groups.
Expanding the reach of social care
Until now, the Red Cross served more than 2,000 people referred by Social Services and others who arrive with basic needs such as housing or food. Now, with greater capacity, they can reinforce this assistance and develop new projects focused on equal opportunities.
Collaboration between administration and the third sector
A long-term agreement to ensure sustainability
The Amposta City Council, through the Municipal Social Services Foundation (Fussmont), granted the space for 50 years for Red Cross use. This concession is key to guaranteeing the continuity and stability of this essential service.
Public funding and support
The Tarragona Provincial Council granted a subsidy of 160,000 euros for the building’s rehabilitation, while the total cost of the works was 195,000 euros. This public investment strengthens social care capacity in Amposta and promotes collaboration between institutions.
Social programs with direct community impact
The "Reinforcement and effort" project for children and youth
Among the new features stands out the "Reinforcement and effort" project, which works for equal opportunities and to improve the educational skills of children and youth. This type of initiative is the visible face of a committed bet for a fairer future.
An essential task for social cohesion
According to the president of the Amposta Red Cross, Teresa Reche, the new headquarters dignifies the daily work with people in vulnerable situations. The president of the Provincial Council, Noemí Llauradó, describes it as an "invaluable and tireless" work, reaching where administrations cannot always go.
The reality is that Amposta not only has a new physical space: it has more capacity to care for and change lives.
