Àngel Gaitán explains why hybrids don't convince him
Buying a car in today’s market can seem like an odyssey. Prices have inflated, demand has dropped, and environmental bureaucracy shows no mercy. If you remember when buying a car was almost a routine act, now things have changed radically.
But it’s not all about money. The DGT labels and low emission zones (LEZ) have imposed a new filter that affects much more than just your wallet. How many times have you thought, “What if in two years I can’t drive this car?”
Àngel Gaitán and the real state of hybrids
Àngel Gaitán, a mechanic with thousands of followers, does not hide it. In an interview with 'Sabelotodo' on Cadena SER, he made it clear that hybrids are more of a band-aid than a definitive solution. Their problem? The legislation surrounding them and the lack of a clear future.
Why doesn’t he recommend hybrids?
According to Gaitán, hybrids don’t solve the real problem. “If the law were different, it would be a valid vehicle, but right now it’s just a patch,” he says. Furthermore, he uses plug-in hybrids as an example: “If they help me get around daily without running the combustion engine, perfect. But nothing more.”
Criticism of the government and regulations
The mechanic doesn’t miss the chance to criticize political management: “This is a key moment, and the decisions do not help clarify the buyer’s future.” The shadow of a total ban on combustion vehicles starting in 2035 already weighs heavily, making betting on a hybrid an uncertain choice.
The reality of electric cars in today’s market
Electric vehicles are gaining ground, but the transition is still not easy. The expert highlights that with solar panels at home and the workshop, he avoids paying for gasoline himself. However, the cost is not the same for everyone, and that conditions the decision.
Advantages of the electric car
The electric car allows driving without restrictions in LEZs and avoids traditional fuel expenses. This, combined with autonomy that continually improves, makes it the best bet according to Gaitán.
Pending challenges
Not everything is perfect, though: the initial price, charging infrastructure, and fears about new technologies still cause many drivers to hesitate. But the future is clear: electric or nothing.
How does the new regulation affect car buyers?
The DGT sets the rules of the game with labels and restrictions that influence the type of vehicle you can buy if you want to keep the freedom to drive.
Labels and LEZs
Low emission zones set strict limits. Vehicles without a label or with a more polluting label will not be allowed to drive in many cities, forcing you to think carefully about what to buy.
The role of legislation from 2035
From 2035 on, no hybrids, gasoline, or diesel, everything points to only electric vehicles being able to drive freely. A date that weighs more than ever when deciding.
But what about you, do you already know which car you want for the future?
Àngel Gaitán puts the cards on the table: the hybrid is only a temporary patch, and if you want to be at ease within the rules and urban mobility, it’s better to bet on electric without hesitation.
