Surprising closing of the Mapadeball project with young dancers in Tarragona
Hundreds of young people put themselves to the test at the closing of the Mapadeball project at the Tarragona Theatre, showing that dance is not just movement, but a whole world to explore.
On April 29, 2026, the Tarragona City Council hosted the final event of a project led by Mercat de les Flors and the Xarxa Transversal, coordinated by AGITART, which has connected artists, schools, and cultural institutions throughout the territory.
Closing of the first edition of the Mapadeball project
A show that made the Tarragona Theatre vibrate
Students from the Pons d'Icart and Sant Pere i Sant Pau high schools presented the piece 'Uhmlaba means world in Zulu', a collective creation with choreographers Sílvia Sant Funk and Mònica Muntaner, and the collaboration of local artist Ana Corredor. The mix of young talents and professionals resulted in a show that captivated the attending audience.
The Minister of Education, Isabel Mascaró, witnessed the event and highlighted the importance of integrating education and contemporary creation through projects like this, which has already consolidated a working and growth space between young people and institutions.
Mapadeball and the II Dance Promotion Plan 2023-2026
Mapadeball is part of the II Dance Promotion Plan 2023-2026, an initiative promoted by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The project creates a network among young people, teachers, artists, and cultural institutions, linking education and contemporary dance in a direct and effective way throughout the territory.
The collaboration between the Culture and Education Program, the Department of Education and Vocational Training, the Territorial Education Services, and the Pedagogical Resource Centers has been key to the development of content and activities, which have been carried out through municipalities, educational centers, and cultural facilities.
Special events for International Dance Day
The classical bar of the Balcó returns strongly
Taking advantage of International Dance Day, a sample of classical dance exercises was held at the Mediterranean Balcony by the Association for the Promotion of Dance. Nearly 200 dancers from different Tarragona schools filled the space at 6:30 p.m., before the Minister of Culture, Sandra Ramos, read the official manifesto.
This classic event is a tradition that unites the community and highlights the discipline and passion for dance in the city.
Second showing of the show
At 7:30 p.m., a second showing of the closing show was held, allowing more audiences to enjoy the piece and the energy that young artists convey with each movement.
The Mapadeball project not only closes a first edition; it launches a path where dance educates, connects, and transforms.
The network that unites education, dance, and territory
A coordination that makes a difference
Mercat de les Flors and Xarxa Transversal, together with AGITART, have led the project by connecting different agents working to promote dance from multiple perspectives.
The key has been joint work between artists, teachers, and institutions, allowing a lively and constant exchange to generate creative opportunities for the youth of Tarragona and beyond.
Institutional and community commitment
The Territorial Education Services and Pedagogical Resource Centers have provided technical and pedagogical support, ensuring that the project adapts to current educational needs and that the content is relevant to students.
Thus, Mapadeball becomes an educational and cultural tool that connects local reality with contemporary dance, opening doors to future editions and new collaborations.
The reality is that Tarragona has started to dance, and it doesn't seem willing to stop.
