Blanca Deusdad, researcher at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, has assumed the coordination of one of the most relevant networks in gerontological social work in Europe. This responsibility will have a direct impact on research and practice related to aging.

Her election took place during the European Conference for Social Work Research held at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, in April.

The coordination of the European Network of Gerontological Social Work

Democratic and participatory election

Members of the European Network of Gerontological Social Work (ESWRA) selected Blanca Deusdad and Jūratė Charenkova, from Vilnius University, to lead the organization.

This election was the result of an open and democratic process within one of the most important European events in the field of social work.

A tandem at the helm for four years

For the next four years, Deusdad and Charenkova will lead the network. They will ensure that ESWRA becomes an international reference point.

Their mission includes consolidating the exchange of knowledge among researchers, professionals, and the public.

Promoting research and dissemination in gerontological social work

Strategies to spread knowledge

The coordination aims to create stable structures that facilitate the dissemination of research. This includes specialized publications and innovative formats such as podcasts.

The goal is for the results to reach wider audiences and not remain confined solely to the academic realm.

Integrating aging into social research

They will promote a cross-sectional perspective that incorporates aging into different lines of social work study.

This strengthens the presence of this issue in research and responds to the current needs of society.

Context and impact of the coordination at URV

The role of URV in social research

The Department of Anthropology, Philosophy, and Social Work at URV is consolidated as a reference thanks to the active participation of its researcher Blanca Deusdad.

This responsibility reinforces the university’s international projection and its contribution to critical social issues.

The European Conference in Aberdeen

The meeting held in Scotland brought together the European research community to share advances and build networks.

It is in this context that the necessary momentum is generated to advance gerontological social work.

The reality is that this coordination marks a before and after in social research on aging.
