Environmental Informers assist 394,000 People: unleashed animals and waste, the most common incidents
The Generalitat’s environmental informers have assisted 393,832 people in natural spaces between June and July, according to official data. This operation aims to ensure responsible access to parks, river areas, and protected spaces throughout Catalonia during the high season.
But not all visits are peaceful: several problems have been detected that put the conservation of the spaces and the coexistence of visitors at risk. This makes the informational work more complex and necessary than ever.
The key role of Environmental Informers in the summer
How do Environmental Informers act and why does it matter?
The 206 deployed professionals work directly with the public to inform, regulate, and manage incidents and emergencies. This presence prevents disorder, protects nature, and ensures that visitors respect the rules.
Which institutions collaborate with the operation?
The service is coordinated with town councils, Rural Agents, park rangers, and the Mossos d’Esquadra to ensure effective control and a quick response to incidents. This collaboration multiplies effectiveness in high-traffic areas.
The most recurring problems in the summer
What are the most common conflicts among visitors?
Informers often detect unleashed domestic animals, parking outside designated areas, excess waste, and noise. There are also infractions regarding bathing: jumping or swimming in prohibited areas, which can be dangerous and harm the natural environment.
Why do these problems affect natural spaces so much?
These behaviors have a direct impact on flora and fauna, increase the risk of fires, and damage the quality of the experience for the rest of the visitors. Managing these conflicts is key to preserving the environment.
Territorial distribution and key figures of the operation
How are the Informers distributed across Catalonia?
There are 70 informers in river areas of Girona, Central Catalonia, Tarragona, and Terres de l’Ebre, and 136 in natural parks and protected spaces. This distribution adapts to visitor concentration and the need for local surveillance.
What figures are recorded regarding visits and assistance?
During the analyzed period, 393,832 people were assisted, while the total number of visitors exceeds one million. River areas have received 108,985 visitors, although in some zones the number has decreased compared to 2025 due to closures caused by Plan Alfa 4.
| Area | Informers | People Assisted | Estimated Visitors |
|---|---|---|---|
| River areas (Girona, CC, Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre) | 70 | 67,000 | 108,985 |
| Natural parks and protected spaces | 136 | 328,104 | More than 939,000 |
