A different afternoon took place in Valls last June 5, when various mental health clubs from the Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l’Ebre met to share experiences and make visible a reality often hidden. It is not just a meeting: it is a demonstration of collective strength and mutual support that breaks stigmas.

The social clubs are more than a meeting space; they represent vital support for many people battling mental health issues, and this meeting organized by the Porta Oberta Association in Valls highlighted solidarity and joint work in the region.

The participating clubs and their importance

The social clubs that exchanged experiences

Four very active social clubs in the area participated in the meeting:

  • The Terres de l’Ebre social club from Amposta, which provides a fundamental support point for the Terres de l’Ebre.
  • La Muralla from Tarragona, which is part of the support network in the city of Tarragona.
  • El Porxo from Reus, a space that accompanies many people from Reus in their daily lives.
  • Novament from Reus, which also supports people within the capital of Baix Camp.

The role of the Porta Oberta Association

Porta Oberta not only organizes the meeting but also plays a key role in the dynamization and coordination of mental health clubs in the region. These types of events serve to strengthen ties and promote the visibility of this group, often invisible to society.

The social value of mental health meetings

A space to break stigmas

The people participating in the social clubs find a place to be heard and to share challenges and joys. These meetings help build a support network that goes beyond the individual and positively impacts the community.

Impact in the region and province

It is no accident that Valls hosts this meeting. As the central hub of Camp de Tarragona, the city plays a meeting point role that facilitates interaction between different areas, such as Terres de l’Ebre and Reus. This helps spread the message about the importance of mental health and social inclusion.

Terres de l’Ebre Amposta Community support for mental health
