Eight kilos of illegal mollusks on the Fangar beach is not just any figure, especially if the catch is made with professional tools outside of permitted hours and in a prohibited area.

The Civil Guard has acted in the Ebro Delta, specifically on Fangar beach, where it detected an offender and issued complaints that could alert more than one fisherman.

The night service that caught everything

The place and the time

The events took place within the municipal area of Deltebre, in Montsià, in the middle of the night. SEPRONA agents located an individual in the water making catches when it was not allowed, in an area expressly prohibited by Catalan regulations.

The use of professional instruments

The person was not only breaking hours but was also using tools that are not permitted for capturing mollusks, specifically of the species Donax trunculus. This combination set off all the agents' alarms.

The complaints and the regulations being violated

Types of infringements

The Civil Guard has filed several complaints for violating Catalonia's fishing and maritime action regulations. It is not just a fine: it involves putting a stop to practices that can damage the Delta and its surroundings.

What the law says

Bivalve mollusks like Donax trunculus have strict regulations that limit catch, hours, and zones to protect the species and local biodiversity. Breaking these rules can have serious economic and environmental consequences.

The Ebro Delta as the setting and social reaction

The importance of Fangar

Fangar beach is a natural icon in the Ebro Delta. Any activity outside the regulations affects not only the landscape but also the balance of a protected and internationally valued ecosystem.

Response and awareness

Despite the intervention, the question remains: how many more are proliferating by poaching? Social mobilization and awareness about protecting the Delta are key to preventing mollusks from disappearing from our plates and from nature.

If you thought it was all beach and relaxation, now you know that every mollusk that disappears has a story—and a fine—behind it.
