Two surprising theatrical appointments at the Fortuny Theatre this May
Two theatrical shows that will not leave anyone indifferent arrive this May at the Fortuny Theatre of Reus. With proposals that question reality and stir consciences, the venue becomes a meeting point for lovers of powerful and critical drama.
The Fortuny Theatre schedules two performances this month, on May 12 and 19, with texts and directions focusing on love, memory, and recent tragedy. Tickets are on sale both online and at the box office.
Heart of the Lovers: love triumphs when everything collapses
A life or death story with multiple versions
On Tuesday, May 12, at 8:30 p.m., the audience will be able to see Heart of the Lovers, a text by the Portuguese Tiago Rodrigues, who returns to his first theatrical piece written in 2007, now in a new version. The play explores an extreme situation where a young couple faces a vital moment that can end in tragedy or hope.
Each of the lovers recounts the events with small differences, creating a polyphonic narrative that makes the fragility and intensity of love resonate. It is a cry to the vital force when normality breaks and the world seems to overflow.
Production and performance
The piece is a production of the Teatre Lliure with Ernest Villegas and Marta Marco as the protagonists. Rodrigues, also director of the Avignon Festival, investigates how time and theatrical awareness can transform the audience’s perspective.
The water, the dead, and the lies: the tragedy we cannot forget
A drama denouncing institutional irresponsibility
Seven days later, on May 19 at the same time, The water, the dead, and the lies arrives, a play based on the catastrophe of October 29, 2024, in the central Valencian regions, where torrential rains caused 229 deaths.
The text by Joan Cavallé, directed by Carles Bigorra, not only recalls the tragedy but points out the lack of responsibility and the lies surrounding the events. A piece that hurts and leaves no room for forgetting.
Aesthetic and unique experience
Following the classic aesthetics of tragedy, four symbolic figures represent witnesses who recreate the story with a language that mixes drama, poetry, and sharp humor. Furthermore, the audience will be located on stage to experience the show in a completely immersive way.
How to acquire tickets and box office hours
Advance and in-person purchase

The latter option is available one hour before each show and during the usual hours from Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organization and ease of access
The Fortuny Theatre guarantees comfortable access and a cultural experience that will leave no one indifferent. With programming that bets on quality productions and stirring themes, this May the theater reaffirms itself as an essential space in Reus.
