Green Xef wins Prototips Reus Laboratori Jove with healthy food
Green Xef has left everyone speechless: a project that wants to change how young people in Reus eat. It is not just another idea, it is the winning initiative of the third edition of Prototips, Reus Young Laboratory.
The city has launched this youth participation laboratory to give a voice and resources to the more than 120 young people who participated on May 7 at firaReus Events, demonstrating that innovation is not in the hands of a few but beats strongly among the local students.
The challenge of getting young people to eat better
Community and habits that don’t fit
The issue is not minor: adolescents often eat alone, glued to the screen, choosing fast food due to lack of time or suitable spaces. This makes healthy eating seem like a luxury or a boring obligation.
For this reason, the laboratory sought a solution that makes healthy eating easier, more attractive, and above all, a moment to share with others.
Paths to tackle the problem
- Create community: make eating a social act within schools and neighborhoods.
- Improve spaces: transform the places where young people eat to make them healthier.
- Communicate without sermons: fresh and creative formats far from paternalistic messages.
- Healthy business: affordable and healthy business ideas for young people.
The hackathon that sparked youth creativity
Nonstop idea marathon
The young people did not have time to get bored. This social innovation hackathon was an intense nonstop: from empathy and problem definition, through idea generation without filters, to materializing real and tangible prototypes.
A format that made them work against the clock, leaving aside theoretical lessons to focus on what really matters: providing solutions that work.
Green Xef, the victory with a healthy flavor
The Green team from Institut Gaudí took the prize with Green Xef, a project that combines training, practical workshops with professionals, the creation of a recipe book, and competitions to choose the best healthy dish.
An initiative designed so that healthy eating stops being an obligation and becomes an accessible pleasure for young people.
Commitment and future of the winning project
Mentorship to make Green Xef a reality
The Youth Department does not stop at applause. Daniel Marcos, Youth Councilor, emphasizes that the goal is to accompany young people throughout the process, from the idea to the final prototype.
For this reason, during the next school year, the winning project will receive resources and mentorship to make it a reality in the city.
Reus as a City of Science and Innovation
Prototips is part of the Local Youth Plan and helps consolidate Reus on the science and innovation map. It is not just a contest; it is proof that local talent also knows how to serve health and the community.
That healthy eating triumphs with a dish from young people is more than symbolic, it is necessary.
Who would have thought that cooking well and together could be the best recipe to attract the future?
