Details of the Let’s Clean Up activity in Reus
What happened during the day?
The 21 groups of students, spread across 15 educational centers, put on work clothes and went out to clean the nearby environment. Paths, streams, ravines, and undeveloped lots were the settings for the collection.
In total, they gathered 518.54 kg of waste: 103.68 kg of packaging, 29.13 kg of paper, 305.56 kg of rejects, and 80.17 kg of glass. That is not little trash for young hands.
How were the students prepared?
In the days prior, the students worked in class on waste reduction and environmental conservation topics. Thus, they not only cleaned but also understood why it is necessary to take care of what surrounds us.
All the groups met at Plaça de la Llibertat for a joint awareness action, making their environmental commitment visible in the heart of the city.

The Escoles Reus 2030 program and sustainability
What is Escoles Reus 2030?
Escoles Reus 2030 is an environmental education program that involves educational centers in actions that promote sustainability and respect for the environment.
The Let’s Clean Up initiative is part of this program, seeking for the city and education to go hand in hand for a cleaner and more responsible future.
Local and European impact
Let’s Clean Up is part of the European initiative Let’s Clean Up Europe, promoted by the Catalonia Waste Agency.
This means that the cleaning of Reus is not only a local gesture but a movement spreading throughout the continent.
The commitment of the youth of Reus to cleaning is an example worthy of being told beyond its borders.
But the city cannot take it as a one-time event. *The waste problem does not disappear if it is only collected one day a year.*
