The last week saw historic strikes at the Renault factories in Valladolid and Palencia, an event not seen in Spain since the 1970s. But, just like in movies with a hopeful ending, the labor agreement eventually arrived and Renault has confirmed the production of five new models between both plants, three in Palencia and two in Valladolid.

But it is not the only star of the show. Ford has also been in the eye of the storm, with the confirmation of a new model for its Almussafes plant after years of waiting. This factory, which has gone from almost half a million cars to 90,000 currently, could see production rise above 200,000 units.

Spain, the European Detroit: an unexpected boom

⚡ New cars confirmed: 15
🏭 Factories under construction: 2
🏭 Factory about to arrive: 1
🚗 Ford Almussafes production forecast: >200,000 units

The Volkswagen and Stellantis revolution

Volkswagen is not far behind: its factories in Martorell and Landaben will begin producing five urban electric models this very year, with names like the Cupra Raval, VW ID. Polo, and Skoda Elroq. At the same time, Stellantis has confirmed new models for the plants in Vigo, Figueruelas, and Madrid, guaranteeing the viability of the Spanish automotive sector for the next decade.

An ecosystem that moves millions

The automobile industry in Spain is not just factories and cars. The network of component industries and dealerships form a structure that employs millions of people and families. And it doesn’t stop: battery factories are being built in Zaragoza and Sagunt to power the new generation of electric vehicles.

New factories and plans that don’t stop

Industrial bets that mark the future

The reindustrialization of the Zona Franca factory by Ebro or the likely MG factory in Ferrol are just some of the moves that confirm Spain’s desire to consolidate itself as an automotive powerhouse. Not to mention the Mercedes industrial plant in Vitoria, which continues to add solidity to the sector.

European comparison: Spain against the tide

Meanwhile, other European countries are going through difficult times: Italy has seen its car production drop from 800,000 to just over 400,000 units in a few years, and countries like Germany and France are still struggling to recover pre-pandemic levels.

A landscape that makes the industry pulse

The factories that give life to the industry

The combination of new models, factories under construction, and the renewal of existing plants is giving new life to the Spanish automotive industry. This dynamic not only secures jobs but places Spain as a key player on the European map.

The challenge of electric and hybrid cars

The focus is not only quantity but quality and innovation. The new electric and hybrid models being developed and produced in Spain place the industry on a cutting-edge trajectory, where sustainability and technology lead.

The reality is that with 15 new cars confirmed, two factories under construction, and another on the way, Spain seems determined to carve out a privileged place alongside the giants of the sector. This movement not only reactivates plants but also redraws the map of the European automotive industry with renewed prominence.
