The decision by Amposta to use €1.2 million from the municipal surplus for investments in 2026 opens the door to a change in the management of public resources. This measure not only reduces debt but also drives projects that will directly affect the lives of residents.

The regular May plenary session will approve this budget modification, which will replace part of the initially planned loan, allowing for greater flexibility for the Amposta City Council, as explained by Mayor Adam Tomàs.

Priority investments with local impact

Improvements in sports facilities

Among the highlighted investments is the football field, which will receive €129,300 for the renewal of the turf and lighting, as part of the Generalitat's Shock Plan. The athletics track will also be updated with €135,000 for the renewal of the tartan surface and lighting, both projects totaling a global budget of more than €800,000.

Infrastructure and urban services

The Eurovelo 8 will continue its deployment on the Freginals road with a contribution of €600,000 for the second phase, which will complete the conditioning recently started. Additionally, the sewer network will receive €350,000 for its renewal, improving the quality of underground services.

Debt reduction and financial optimization

Less loans, more investment

The inclusion of these surplus funds will reduce the municipal loan to €3.5 million, below the initially planned €4 million. This means that a significant portion of the resources will not have to be allocated to paying interest but rather to visible and tangible actions for the citizenry.

Financial autonomy and maneuvering room

Currently, the net debt of the City Council is around 37%, leaving sufficient room for new investments. This operation has been possible thanks to the extraordinary authorization from the Department of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat of Catalonia, which has allowed more flexible management of municipal resources.

Complementary projects and responsible management

Regulatory compliance and safety

A small but necessary part of the investment is allocated to the renewal of municipal floats, with €36,000 to ensure they comply with current safety regulations. A detail that shows attention to the everyday aspects of the municipality.

Preparation for the Neighborhoods and Towns Plan

With this loan reduction, the doors open to begin executing actions from the Neighborhoods and Towns Plan using resources from the same loan, implying short- and medium-term planning aimed at the overall improvement of the municipality.

Investments in Amposta will not be just numbers on paper. They are initiatives that will transform spaces, services, and infrastructures with a tight budget but clear and visible objectives.
