The streetlights of Rambla Nova change their image forever. Finally, 86 hanging planters with seasonal flowers decorate Tarragona’s most emblematic promenade.

The Municipal Brigade has installed these pieces that will bring color and life throughout the year, including key moments such as Santa Tecla, Christmas, and Easter, according to the Parks and Gardens Service of the Tarragona City Council.

Characteristics and materials of the planters

Innovation in materials and sustainability

The planters are made of recyclable bio-based polypropylene, a material that withstands weather and impacts well, and includes UV protection so the flowers do not spoil quickly.

This choice is not casual: it guarantees durability that avoids frequent replacement, and reduces the environmental footprint. An initiative that is not only aesthetic but also practical.

Efficient irrigation and maintenance system

A detail that makes a difference is the water reserve they incorporate, optimizing consumption and facilitating maintenance by municipal staff.

Additionally, the cultivation bases are interchangeable, allowing quick plant changes according to the season, which helps keep the Rambla always fresh and colorful.

Distribution and variety of plants

Quantity and location

In total, 86 planters have been installed, two for each streetlight on Rambla Nova, thus covering the entire promenade with a green touch that did not exist before.

This intervention is part of a broader project that includes more than 20,000 seasonal plantings at various points in Tarragona.

Species that will adorn the streetlights

Among the chosen flowers are carnations, gazanias, bellflowers, and tall verbenas, all known for their resistance and bright colors.

It is expected that these changes will be made three times a year, coinciding with the most popular festivals, providing a festive atmosphere but also a green lung for residents and visitors.

Impact and maintenance of the initiative

Improvement of urban greenery in Tarragona

This project is part of a clear commitment to increasing urban greenery, with plantings already visible at Font del Centenari, the head of the Circus, Imperial Tarraco Square, and other places.

The goal is for Tarragona to be a friendlier city, visually attractive and environmentally respectful.

Commitment of the Parks and Gardens Service

Maintenance falls to the Municipal Brigade and the Parks and Gardens Service, who will make three annual plant changes and manage the irrigation and care of the planters.

This ensures that Rambla Nova not only premieres planters but keeps them in optimal conditions over time.

The Municipal Brigade has made it clear that this flower project is only the beginning of a visual transformation aimed at making daily life more pleasant for the people of Tarragona.

When Rambla Nova dresses up, the city feels it. And if the planters last longer than political promises, that will already be a record.
