Reus hosts the 9th edition of Pint of Science to bring science closer
The bars of Reus will once again become informal laboratories with the 9th edition of the Pint of Science festival, which brings science closer to the public in a more direct and accessible way.
From May 18 to 20, the city will become the stage for scientific talks that seek to break down the barrier between knowledge and the general public, with the active support of the Reus City Council and its Department of Economic Promotion.
A festival that dismantles the distance between science and citizens
A program with 22 voices of local experts
This year, Reus will feature the participation of 22 researchers who will give talks at 7:00 p.m. at As de Copes Gastropub and at Racó de l’Orfeó Reusenc. Topics range from nutrition and the brain to perinatal health or genetics, including microbiota and precision oncology.
Bars and emblematic spaces, new venues for scientific debate
The informal atmosphere of bars makes science no longer inaccessible and boring, but rather a lively and close debate. Thus, attendees can exchange opinions with the speakers while enjoying a beer or a vermouth. All of this is free of charge, until capacity is reached.
Impact in Camp de Tarragona: Reus and Tarragona as the epicenter
Tarragona multiplies the number of speakers
At the same time, Tarragona joins with 36 researchers spread across Sala Zero, T2 Topos, and Totem Café. The combined participation of the two cities raises the number to almost 60 scientists, consolidating Camp de Tarragona as a key point for dialogue between research and society.
A territory that wants to make science visible
The initiative reinforces the idea that science is not just the domain of universities or laboratories but forms part of the culture, the territory, and the daily reality of citizens. Pint of Science acts as a bridge so that the work done in the territory is seen and how it affects everyone's life.
Pint of Science: science that leaves the laboratory to enter the bars
An international festival with local roots
Pint of Science is held every year in many countries to bring research closer to people. In a relaxed environment, researchers explain their work without technicalities or scripts, in an open conversation that generates critical thinking and curiosity.
A selfless commitment to scientific outreach
Since 2018, the Association for Scientific Dissemination in Camp de Tarragona has organized the festival in Reus and Tarragona. The collaboration of the Reus City Council is key to ensuring its dissemination and reception, along with the support of bars, sponsors, and the scientific community.
Pint of Science is the perfect excuse to leave the laboratory and enter the bars; because science should not stay in books, but must speak to everyone.
The complete program with schedules and topics is available at pintofscience.es and the official poster can be consulted to not miss any talk.
That science is the protagonist in a bar is no coincidence, but a declaration of intentions: science belongs to everyone.
