Families from Camp de Tarragona, host a Sahrawi child this summer 2026
Do you want to have a different summer full of solidarity? Families from the Camp de Tarragona have the opportunity to host a Sahrawi child during July and August.
The City Council of Reus, through the Solidarity and Cooperation Department, supports the project "Vacations in Peace 2026" promoted by the Hammada Association and the Sahrawi Delegation in Catalonia.
The Vacations in Peace 2026 Project
What is it and how does it work?
The program allows Sahrawi children aged between 9 and 11, from the Tindouf refugee camps (Algeria), to temporarily live with Catalan families during the summer months.
The main objective is to improve the quality of life of the children and promote intercultural education, while ensuring a stay full of recreational activities and institutional visits.
What is requested from host families?
Families must take responsibility for the child, ensure their well-being, and accompany them in all scheduled activities.
Additionally, they must have time, enthusiasm, and commitment to guarantee that the stay is positive and enriching for both parties.
Management and Support by the Hammada Association
Responsibilities of the Association
- Finance the children's travel to Catalonia.
- Manage all necessary documentation for the temporary hosting.
- Support families during the children's stay.
- Process the health card that facilitates access to the Catalan health system (CatSalut).
- Organize recreational and cultural activities for the children.
How to contact to participate?
Interested families can call or send a WhatsApp message to 635 908 782 or write to hammadassociacio@gmail.com to get more information and formalize the hosting.
Participation is voluntary but the impact is direct on the lives of these refugee children.
Benefits and Commitment of the Project
Benefits for Sahrawi children
The stay in Catalonia allows children to temporarily escape the harsh conditions of the camps and enjoy a healthier, educational, and cultural life.
Likewise, it promotes coexistence and understanding among different cultures, enabling host families and children to create unique bonds.
Commitment of Host Families
Besides daily responsibility, families must ensure active participation in the scheduled activities and guarantee the child's overall well-being during their stay.
It is a commitment that requires dedication but rewards with unique experiences and values that will last forever.
Because hosting is not just opening the door, it is opening the heart.
The reality is that while Sahrawi children await a warmer summer, families from Camp have within reach the chance to transform lives.
