On Sunday, May 31, Reus gets sporty with the fourth edition of the Rural Half Marathon. It is the opportunity to run along the city's lesser-known paths, surrounded by olive groves and dry stone walls that make the race much more than a competition.

Registrations are already open and free, but don’t wait: only until May 28 or until places run out. The race is not only 21 kilometers; it also offers a 10 km event and, for the first time, children’s races for kids from 0 to 12 years old.

Details of the Rural Half Marathon of Reus

Route and schedules

The joint start of the 10 km and 21 km races will be at 9:30 a.m. from the Paseo de la Boca de la Mina (Maria Àngels Ollé Square). The race takes place in a single lap along the rural paths northwest of Reus, skirting the Riudecanyes Reservoir and passing by the Pere Mata Institute.

The terrain combines a gentle slope at the beginning with an ascent reaching the highest point halfway through, ending with a gentle downhill to the finish line, again at the Paseo de la Boca de la Mina, next to the Parc de les Teixidores.

Children’s races and novelties

For the first time, the Rural Half Marathon includes three children’s races segmented by age: 800 meters for kids 10 to 12 years old, 500 meters for 7 to 9 years old, and 250 meters for little ones 1 to 6 years old, where parents can run alongside them.

The start of the children’s races will be at 9:45 a.m., just after the main races, at the same Paseo de la Boca de la Mina. In addition, there will be a raffle with sports equipment prizes among all participants present, including shoes and hydration backpacks.

The bib can be picked up on Saturday, May 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Parc Agrari building on the Paseo de la Boca de la Mina. There will also be an option to pick it up on Sunday, May 31, from 8:00 to 9:15 a.m. before the race starts.

Motivations and environment of the race

Objectives of the event

The Rural Half Marathon was created to highlight the rural paths of Reus as a space for outdoor sports. It aims to promote knowledge of the territory, the landscape, and social cohesion among residents, with a route that combines nature and sport.

Natural environment and experience

Participants will pass through fields of olive and hazelnut trees, dry stone walls, and areas near the Riudecanyes Reservoir. This little-known and very authentic landscape makes the race a different experience within the municipality.

Event Distance Start
Rural Half Marathon 21 km 9:30 a.m.
10 km Race 10 km 9:30 a.m.
Children’s races 1-6 years 250 m 9:45 a.m.
Children’s races 7-9 years 500 m 9:45 a.m.
Children’s races 10-12 years 800 m 9:45 a.m.

The race is a good excuse to move through a less visible Reus and to discover an environment many do not know, all while doing sport in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.

If you haven’t registered yet, don’t waste time. This edition promises to be the most complete so far, with children’s races and prizes that will surely make no one want to stay at home.
