Delay in Tortosa: extreme heat prolongs the work on the track cover

High temperatures come back into play in Tortosa and put on hold a project that many were expecting to see finished sooner. The installation of the roof on the outdoor multipurpose court at the Temple will not be completed until early November.

The project, awarded to Taurus Renovables SL, has already encountered obstacles due to the relentless thermometer. The Tortosa City Council has approved an extension to complete the work with guarantees and without risking the safety of the workers.

Characteristics of the new metal roof

The roof to be installed covers 1,341 square meters and has a minimum height of 5.72 meters. This measurement is no accident: it guarantees a clear space adapted to the sports usually practiced on the court.

Once finished, the court will become a POL-2, according to the requirements of the Catalan Sports Council for sports facilities within the basic network of the Master Plan for Sports Facilities and Equipment.

Cost and subsequent phases of the project

The project has a budget of 325,490 euros, a cost that includes not only the roof but also the plan for a perimeter fence to be built in later phases.

There is also the possibility of installing photovoltaic panels on top of the roof, a detail that will make the facility more sustainable and energy efficient.

The high temperatures the area is experiencing have complicated the execution of outdoor work. This same problem was recently encountered during construction at the old Renfe land parking lot.

Taurus Renovables SL, the contractor, requested an extension in order to guarantee worker safety and the quality of the work, a process that the City Council has accepted.

The new deadline for completing the work has been set for November 3, thus allowing more time to finish the installation without rush or risks.
