Amposta will discuss a 3.5 million credit to boost 8 million in municipal investments
The Amposta City Council proposes a credit operation of 3.5 million euros that will make it possible to mobilize nearly 8 million in municipal investments. This initiative combines a long-term loan with own resources and external subsidies to expand infrastructure and service actions.
The news arrives just before the ordinary plenary session on June 29, where the financial and investment future of the municipality will be decided. Mayor Adam Tomàs details the complex formula that multiplies the economic capacity of the City Council.
The credit operation that redraws investments in Amposta
What does the 3.5 million credit involve?
The City Council proposes a long-term loan valued at 3,547,000 euros to finance a package of municipal investments. Although the initial budget forecasted 4 million, the inclusion of 1.2 million euros of surplus has allowed for reducing indebtedness and increasing own investments up to 4.8 million.
Thus, the credit is divided into two lots to encourage competition among financial entities. The current debt level of 36% is much lower than the 64% of 2019, when the current government team took over municipal management.
Why is this of interest to Amposta residents?
This financing model makes each euro of the loan accompanied by own resources and subsidies, multiplying the impact. Specifically, nearly 3 million in aid is added to the 4.8 million of municipal resources, accumulating close to 8 million in actions that improve the daily life of Amposta residents.
It is a formula that guarantees a larger investment without skyrocketing indebtedness, and allows progress in essential projects for the city.
Details of the planned actions and budget modification
What investments will be executed with this financing?
A significant part, 1,369,000 euros, will be allocated to improving streets and public roads, specifying one of the most important paving campaigns in recent years. Priority will be given to streets with renewed services or in worse condition.
The second block includes actions in green spaces, educational centers, sports facilities, and security cameras. There are also two relevant actions: a first phase to improve the municipal animal shelter with 200,000 euros and an allocation of 890,941 euros to initiate actions from the Neighborhood Plan, which has a subsidy of 15 million for a global project of 25 million over eight years.
What happens with Santa Bàrbara Avenue?
The plenary will also discuss a credit modification of 102,000 euros to complete the works on Santa Bàrbara Avenue, in a total action of nearly 2 million. The increase of 26,000 euros will be used to address the rise in material costs and ensure finishing the paving within the scheduled calendar.
Motions and political debate at the plenary session
What motions will be presented?
The Amposta Esquerra municipal group will bring a motion supporting the Terres de l’Ebre train-tram project, which would connect Roquetes, Tortosa, Amposta, la Ràpita, and Alcanar with light rail transport.
Meanwhile, Junts per Amposta will propose improving and adapting the bike lane of the Val de Zafán greenway as it passes through Amposta.
How does this affect the citizens?
These motions reflect clear local interests in sustainable mobility and territorial connections. Citizens can expect the plenary to be a space for debate and progress on these issues that affect their mobility and quality of life.
The City Council’s investment capacity, reinforced by this credit operation, is key to advancing projects with a direct impact on the city and its inhabitants.
The June 29 plenary will be a key appointment to define Amposta’s immediate future in terms of investments and urban improvements. The combination of responsible financial management and support for projects with social impact makes this credit operation an ambitious yet realistic move aligned with local reality.
Current management has substantially reduced indebtedness and now seeks to multiply investment without risking municipal economic stability. A delicate but necessary balance.
