It was an ordinary Sunday until 600 runners decided to put the rural paths of Reus to the test. The IV Rural Half Marathon arrives with force to transform the city into a terrain for athletes and nature lovers.

On May 31, the northwest area of Reus will host this race that not only challenges the legs but also aims to make visible a territory often forgotten. And yes, the bib numbers are sold out, but the party still has more to offer.

An appointment to discover the rural paths of Reus

Route and objectives

The Rural Half Marathon is not just a race, it is an invitation to travel among olive groves, hazelnut trees, and dry stone walls. The route starts gently, climbs to a high point, then descends smoothly back to the starting point at Passeig de la Boca de la Mina, in Parc de les Teixidores.

The route is designed as a single lap for both the 10 km and 21 km distances, crossing municipal paths that are meant to be known as an ideal space for outdoor sports.

Dates and organization

The event will be held on Sunday, May 31, with a joint start at 9:30 a.m. Registrations for the children’s race, which is being introduced for the first time this year, will be open until Thursday at 12 p.m.

Bibs can be picked up on Saturday, May 30, at the Parc Agrari building from 6 to 8 p.m., or on the same Sunday before the race, from 8 to 9:15 a.m.

The novelty of the children’s race and motivating prizes

Races for different ages

This year, for the first time, the Half Marathon includes three children’s races segmented by age: 800 meters for children aged 10 to 12, 500 meters for children aged 7 to 9, and 250 meters for the youngest, aged 1 to 6.

In this last race, parents and children are allowed to run together, making the moment a family and fun experience.

Raffle and sports prizes

To add an extra touch, a raffle is organized with three sports material prizes: running shoes valued at 150 euros and two hydration backpacks worth 50 euros each. The only requirement is to be present during the raffle, which will take place right after the awards ceremony.

All set to enjoy sport and the territory

Impact and participation

The initiative was born with the desire to showcase the wealth of Reus’s rural paths, promoting sports practice and social cohesion in the municipality. The event counts on the collaboration of the Riudecanyes Reservoir and has sold out the 600 available bib numbers.

It is an event that brings together amateur athletes and families, bringing the territory closer to the citizens in a dynamic and healthy way.

How to get there and recommendations

The start and finish are located at Passeig de la Boca de la Mina, an accessible spot at Parc Agrari. Participants are advised to arrive early to collect their bibs and prepare before the start at 9:30 a.m.

The paths offer varied landscapes and are easy in difficulty, ideal for runners of various levels who want to enjoy nature without extreme challenges.

The reality is that the IV Rural Half Marathon of Reus is not just another race, but a perfect excuse to go for a run surrounded by nature and discover unknown corners of the municipality.
